UPDATE: Helping those who need it most
If you are in need of help be it locating stock or pets, cleaning up debris, re-errecting fences etc - then please contact the Chamber of Commerce. We have members who are eager to help! Conversely if you want to put your hand up to help, please also contact us.
If you have lost or found animals the QLD branch of the RSPCA is a fantastic resource. They are working hard to keep their search database up to date as new information comes in. Please report immediately to them or Council if you find stock as they could be someone's much loved pet. QLD RSPCA search link.
This is a reference link to photos taken by locals on Sunday - Photo Gallery . Our friends lost 2 horses from the paddock that we share with them just around the corner from the coarseway. Kind people found one barely alive under their boat pontoon and tried to keep him alive from the early hours. Despite their heroic efforts and those of the vet and firemen, the poor boy was in too much shock and had to be put down. Our horse and 15 others, were rescued by a group of us at 6 in the morning. But you can see our feed room which is the shipping container on the floodway travelled about 1km from where it was originally located. There were reports from people living close to the paddock/river that it sounded like a jumbo landing when the wall of water came down. The poor animals had barely a chance. There were also reports that one man was chasing some of the horses back into the water off his property after they had survived going over the floodway and then tumbled around to the far side of the lake. There are no bounds to human cruelty. However it helps to bring other’s together. Many have lost stock; horses, cattle, much loved pets, homes, sheds, boats, cars - the list goes on.
If there is anyone actively collecting goods on behalf of local families in needs - please send us your contact details to post on the Chamber website. Locals are here to help! Please use our contact us form.
If you have a story to tell, please share with us.
We have been advised that the standard train (Interurban Multiple Units) on the Gold Coast line should have toilet facilities due to the distance between the Gold Coast and Brisbane.
We are seeking your input regarding this issue and ask that if you catch a Gold Coast train at any time (peak or off peak) that you advise us whether or not there are toilet facilities.
We particularly want you to advise us of the time of the train service and in particular if there was or there was not a toilet on the train.
